The Chrysler 300C has been refreshed and updated for the 2015 model year. Chrysler showed the facelift at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. Although it’s one of the best-value executive sedans currently sold in Mzansi, the market just hasn’t been too receptive to it. Local sales over the past three months read as such; August 11 units, September 5 units and in October they went double to 10.

Not the best at all if you consider that cars in its class, like the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class regularly average about 100 units per month each. The new facelift is very good-looking too, so Chrysler will be hoping to improve on its numbers.

The design is quite different from the front end, which sports a new front grille. The piece is clearly larger than before and features new headlights and a new lower splitter. There are also changes at the rear end of things, with a completely different lights cluster, bumper and exhaust tailpipes.

Engines have mostly been retained from the outgoing model, meaning the naturally aspirated 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 with 210kW stays put. So does the 176kW turbo diesel for Europe and Mzansi. The biggest change is probably the introduction of the 300S which has the 5.7-litre V8 HEMI with 224kW and 533Nm. Chrysler says it will no longer sell the SRT (or SRT8) in the United States, but will keep it going in some right-hand-drive countries. That may or may not include Mzansi.

While the interior has also been redesigned, the 300C gets to keep its long list of nice features and goodies, including the Uconnect infotainment system accessed through the massive 21.3cm touch screen, heated leather seats, a stop/ start button, dual zone climate control, a multifunction steering wheel and very interestingly, a gear-selecting wheel (similar to Jaguar Land Rover’s unit) replacing the traditional gear lever.
