FESTIVE ROAD DEATHS DROP BUT REMAIN HIGH

Minister of Transport Fikile Mbalula says 1 451 people died on Mzansi roads between 01 December 2022 and 11 January 2023. According to his numbers, this is 14% lower than the previous period. Gauteng recorded the most fatalities at 290.

While the number appears to have dropped, one death on our roads is one death too many. The most common reason for these completely unnecessary fatalities in my opinion is driver error, not vehicle malfunction. Motorists drive too fast for the prevailing road conditions, and not all can handle a car properly. In other words they overestimate their driving talents at the expense of other road users.
