It now common cause among motoring enthusiasts at least, that Aston Martin will be selling its first-ever SUV from the year 2020. Currently going by the name DBX, the SUV will be full-sized – so about 5 metres long, according to its maker, feature four doors and become one of its most important cars in its 105 year history. These official “spy” pictures show a prototype undergoing testing.

We expect the production model to be unveiled completely sometime in 2019, possibly in Geneva, Beijing or New York. Of course Mzansi customers will also get their chance as the country will be afforded a number of examples to kick off with. As previously stated, the DBX features a high riding position, four passenger doors, seating for at least four people, perhaps five, and a coupe-like body shape. We don’t expect it to do well off-road, but it will feature all-wheel-drive (AWD).

Under the bonnet lies a 4.0-litre biturbo V8 procured from Mercedes-AMG. We obviously don’t know how powerful it is yet, but we do believe it will exceed the 400kW mark by some margin. Remember this car is going up against higher-end SUVs, the likes of Porsche Cayenne Turbo, and Mercedes-AMG 63 S.
