2019 Sorento

Kia unveiled the new upcoming Sorento, refreshed for the year 2018 and could hit our Mzansi market during the same year. The biggest SUV in the Koreans’ lineup has been improved in a number of ways and will appeal to potential buyers mainly looking for space, comfort and an alternative SUV experience.

By adding another row of seats to make it a 7-seater, the Kia designers and engineers are going after more premium players. In fact according to the company, the whole car’s interior is more premium, especially the tactile materials used, as well as some of the new technologies. Among these would be the Driver Attention Warning and Lane Keep Assist.

The redesigned Sorento features a new front end with a different bumper design, new headlight configuration, new rear tail lights, and a new rear tailgate. Kia reckons the new look keeps the car’s “refined, rugged look” but makes it more appealing and current. The specific wheels you see on this picture are from the American model, so they probably won’t make it to Mzansi.

Three engines were announced for the updated Sorento. They are the naturally aspirated 2.4-litre with 127kW and 225Nm of torque, and a 3.3-litre V6. We don’t have the V6 here in Mzansi, and neither do we have the 2.0-litre turbo. Kia says the 2.2-litre turbo diesel (CRDi models) will only begin production for the updated body later, which means Mzansi may only receive the 2.4-litre at launch. The 2.4-litre keeps its 6-speed automatic configuration, albeit updated.
