2018 Mercedes-AMG GT R 1

In Germany there is hushed talk of a baby Mercedes-AMG. Currently the brand has two standalone models in several body styles, including the GT, GT 4-Door Coupe and GT C. This third model is said to be a direct rival to the Porsche Cayman, but has not been approved by the company’s board yet. If it does get the green light then expect to see it on the roads around 2022. The main reason for such a car is increased sales, because of its lower entry-price but potentially high desirability.

Just like the Cayman, the little AMG would only be able to carry two occupants, driver included. It would share some of its interior bits with the GT range, but use smaller engines for its power. A likely candidate is the company 2.0-litre turbo which would deliver over 300kW. Less attractive is the new 3.0-litre straight six turbo motor that would make similar or a bit more power. Its disadvantage is the extra weight.
