Ford South Africa is feeling extremely bullish about its sports car, the Mustang. This is backed by its current position as the best-selling sports car in the country. Over the past two months just under 200 units were sold, by far the most in this category. Now a new range-topper has been confirmed to arrive here in 2019, in “limited numbers”. Its name is Bullitt.

Those of you who know a Mzansi with only four TV channels will remember the iconic movie Bullitt, which starred Steve McQueen. It was basically the Fast & Furious version of the late 1960s and early 1970s. The car is the latest version to be named after that movie. It features the same naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 found in the Mustang GT, but with a power upgrade to 353kW and 569Nm of torque. Top speed is said to be 262km/h, and the rear wheels are worked by a 6-speed manual.

Some of the car’s features include a new open-air induction system and Shelby GT350 intake manifold, black NitroPlateT exhaust tips, 19-inch wheels, only Shadow Black and classic Dark Highland Green exterior colours, heated leather-covered steering wheel, a 30.5cm LCD screen and others. We don’t know how much the Bullitt will cost you here in Mzansi, but we reckon it will be just a hair’s breath under R1 million.
