As you might know, Jeep has produced what is said to be the most powerful SUV on the planet, in the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. The big SUV is now available in Mzansi, only a few months later than originally scheduled, and is ready to play with the big boys. Figures carried by this vehicle are highly impressive, and it will be worth seeing how it performs in real-life conditions.

If we get right into it we can recall that Trackhawk is powered by a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 with 522kW of power and 875Nm of torque. Like we said earlier, these figures are astounding and place it ahead of all its direct competitors. Torque and power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Jeep claims as a result it will dash from standstill to 100km/h in 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 290km/h.

Some of the under-the-skin features that differentiate the car from other Grand Cherokees, and indeed, other Jeeps in general, include the large 20-inch wheels with yellow Brembo brake calipers – belonging to the largest brakes ever fitted on a Jeep, and unique four exhaust tailpipes. Its Selec-Track system has five driving modes; Auto, Sport, Track, Snow and Tow, with each best-suited to these conditions.

The interior is fit for a sports car and features things like a 21.3cm touch screen for the Uconnect infotainment system, a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel with a flat bottom, shift peddles behind it, Nappa leather seats with embroidered Trackhawk logos, a panoramic sunroof and red seatbelts among a host of others.
