2018 Jeep® Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

While Fiat Chrysler Automobiles South Africa (FCASA) was busy telling us about their new MD, the exit of Dodge and Chrysler from our market, and other corporate stuff, they managed to leave another bombshell in the mix. That bombshell is confirmation that the most powerful SUV in the world will definitely arrive in Mzansi in 2018! That car, if you forgot, is the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk and it won’t be here to play nice.

Said Trackhawk uses a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 petrol engine to muster 520kW of raw power and 875Nm of pulling torque. There’s nothing nearly as powerful in this segment. Not yet anyway. As a result, Jeep reckons it will hurl itself from 0 – 100km/h in just 3.7 seconds, topping off at 290km/h. All four wheels receive torque through the all-wheel-drive system.

Obviously we don’t know how much the car will cost here yet, but looking at what is probably its nearest competitor, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, there’s reason to believe it will easily hit the R2 million mark. Better start putting some money aside then.
