1 100KW KOENIGSEGG REGERA BREAKS INTO GENEVA

Koenigsegg is better known for all-out performance cars than it is for luxury, like the One:1 for instance. However, at the 2015 Geneva International Motor Show the Swedish hypercar maker unveiled what it calls a combination of the two; extreme performance with super luxury and comfort. Its name is Regera, first teased here, and only 80 examples will be handcrafted to perfection.

Just take a look at all the interior goodies and gismos, such as the adjustable pedals and steering wheel, full leather interior with some lovely stitching, carbon fibre sports seats, satellite navigation, climate control and Apple CarPlay among others.

The car is actually a convertible, or spyder to be more precise, with a detachable hard top that can be stored away. Koenigsegg says in the Regera they have created the first car in the world with fully automated body closures. The entire car can be opened or closed simultaneously from the remote or smartphone.

As is common practice with cars like these lately, the front and rear wheels are of two different sizes. Front wheels are Superlight carbon fibre measuring 19”x9.75”, while the rears are 20”x12.5” types, housing Michelin Supersport tyres of 275/35 19 and 345/30 20 front and rear respectively. Buyers will be able to also specify dedicated Michelin Cup2 tyres should they wish. Expectedly carbon ceramic brakes are standard while the mad titanium exhaust system was developed by Akrapovic.

And now, for the engine. The car is actually a hybrid, though Koenigsegg prefers not to call it that. The three electric motors constitute the most powerful electrical motor set-up in production car history, replacing the gears of a normal transmission while adding; power, torque, torque vectoring and yet still able to remove weight. These are paired with Koenigsegg’s own 5.0-litre twin turbo V8 petrol that huffs out 809kW of power on 95 Octane, and 1 250Nm of torque. When combined with the electric motors there’s over 1.11MW (1 100kW) to be played with and over 2 000Nm of torque, making it by far the most powerful production car in the world today. It’s about as powerful as three current BMW M5s.

At the same time, Regera’s curb weight is 1 628kg. There were no 0 – 100km/h or 0 – 200km/h figures released, except to say it takes 3.2 seconds to get from 150 to 250km/h, and just under 20 seconds from 0 to 400km/h. Essentially then, the Regera is now the most powerful series production road car ever made. By far more powerful than the Bugatti Veyron (again) and more powerful than the previous most powerful car which is the Koenigsegg One:1. It may all sound stupid, but it’s all true.
