One of the prettiest SUVs currently running around the world is the BMW X2. It represents what the present in SUV design should be very accurately. The X2 – which has so far been offered with engines under 200kW each – now takes a step into the performance realm. The new X2 M35i becomes the range-topper, thanks to BMW’s most powerful 2.0-litre engine. BMW South Africa will begin selling the X2 M35i in Mzansi during the first quarter of 2019.

Aforementioned engine is a 4-cylinder turbocharged motor that procures 225kW of power and 450Nm of torque. BMW has installed xDrive all-wheel-drive as standard in the car, which it says helps in the claimed 0 – 100km/h acceleration time of 4.9 seconds. Paired to this engine is an 8-speed automatic transmission that assists in achieving the claimed average fuel consumption figure of 8.3 litres per 100km. Notably these power figures used to be gathered from the old N54 3.0-litre twin turbo engine.

Some of the added technical standouts include an M Sport suspension system, an M Sport differential, adaptive spring and damper combos, 19-inch M Sport light alloy wheels (standard – 20-inch optional), an M Sport exhaust system and a rear spoiler.

The interior is a typical X2 affair, except for a few highlights that include an M Sport leather-covered multifunction steering wheel with shift paddles, M sports seats, and others which might be optional – like Head-Up Display – depending on the market where the car will sell. The new-generation iDrive with ConnectedDrive and the BMW Connected App can also be had.
