2018 BMW iX3 Concept 1

BMW’s first full-electric SUV will start production in 2020, according the statement issued by the company. Called the iX3, the mid-sized vehicle will be produced out of China in cooperation with BMW’s local partner BMW Brilliance Automotive or BBA. The pair have been in business together for the past 15 years and last year delivered 373 300 cars to customers all over China. The iX3 will be sold globally, including in Mzansi.

“Today’s signing represents a new chapter in the success story of our BMW Brilliance Automotive joint venture,” said Harald Krüger, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG. “Our agreement sets a long-term framework for our future in China – a future involving continued investment, further growth and a clear commitment to the development and production of electric vehicles. The next chapter of our cooperation has the potential to go beyond our existing motto – in China, for China. The all-electric BMW iX3, produced by BBA from 2020, will find customers around the world”.

A concept version of the iX3 (check the pics) was revealed earlier this year. The real thing will take its looks from that, but will spot some notable differences too. Said concept was powered by an electric motor and lithium-ion battery system with 200kW of power and a driving range of 400km. hopefully the real deal can match or at least approach that range figure.
