Rumours of an Alfa Romeo SUV have been floating about since at least 2006. The last one cropped up in November last year. However, with several economic downturns globally, the brand felt the timing would be off. Well now it appears the SUV is full steam ahead. And according to the aforementioned last rumour, it will be two SUVs, not one.

The first one will apparently launch with the next 12 months in Europe. We don’t yet know where it will fit in in terms of market segment and price positioning. However, it will be one of Audi Q7/ BMW X5 and Audi Q5/ BMW X3 spaces. We believe it will share platform with the Maserati Levante which will precede it by some months.

Whatever the platform, there will be sufficient engines to power the thing, some shared with the sister Jeep brand and others from Maserati. They include the new 3.0-litre V6 turbo petrol and diesel. Fiat Chrysler Automotive has invested billions of Euros developing new Alfa Romeo models. The first of these is the new Giulia sedan which will take on the likes of Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series.
