Although General Motors no longer sells Cadillac in South Africa, it’s always interesting to have a look at what they are doing. In this case, the new 2016 ATS-V sedan and coupe, both of which are being officially unveiled at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The ATS-V is essentially a BMW M3 and M4 competitor, and as such, features a high-powered engine. Said motor is a 3.6-litre twin turbo V6 worth a class-appropriate 339kW and 603Nm, mated to either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic. Word is, it will do 0 – 100km/h in less than 4 seconds.

Some standout features include 18-inch alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres, a carbon fibre bonnet vent trim, rear air diffuser and four tailpipes. “The ATS-V feels like it was machined from billet steel,” said Tony Roma, chief engineer. “Along with supporting the higher performance capability of the car, the enhanced structure conveys confidence to the driver through a greater feeling of solidity and sharper, more precise responsiveness.”

The interior looks like a sports den, with all the comfort and performance trimmings expected of such a car. Here we are talking about items like Recaro seats, Alcantara bits, a 14.7cm screen to access the CUE infotainment system which features Bluetooth, WiFi, LTE and other connectivity systems.
