BMW officially unveiled the new X3 facelift for the 2014 model year. It comes hot on the tyre threads of the all-new X5 and the two certainly look like kids of the same daddy. Mainly three aspects have been updated; exterior, interior and powertrain.

Most notable is the new front fascia made up of a revised front grille and bumper with new headlights. The X3 really looks different right off the bat. It has taken a more aggressive stance, very similar to the new X5. A new rear bumper was also put on, while the side mirrors now feature integrated indicators.

On the interior front are new upholstery designs and trim strips to take the car even more upmarket and increase its premium look and feel. Other features include the new iDrive infotainment system already used in the 3 and 5 Series among others, new cupholders with a sliding cover (Americans love their cupholders) and the Smart Opener for the automatic tailgate.

Under the bonnet is an upgraded 2.0-litre turbo diesel 4-cylinder engine that used to produce 135kW and 380Nm. In this new X3 facelift it delivers 140kW and 400Nm of torque. Impressively these power figures are almost the same as the ones found in the E36 5 Series of the early 2000s, except that car had a 3.0-litre turbo diesel (codenamed M57D30). BMW says it can now accelerate from 0 – 100km/h in 8.1 seconds and return an average fuel figure of about 5.2 litres per 100km. The other engines remain the same.
