The much-rumoured BMW X8 has been spied in disguise. We have been reporting on X8 talk now for at least three years. We had thought it would be a bigger X6 – basically rear sloping roof SUV coupe type – but these spy pictures tell a different story. We think the X8 will launch in Europe in 2021, followed by Mzansi in 2022.

As you can see, the X8 features a similar long roofline to the X7, but appears to sit closer to the ground. It is also possibly a 6 or 7 seater, like the X7. We expect the X8 to take on a higher level of luxury, which while much of it will reflect that of the X7, will also add a couple of surprises.

In terms of powertrains the X8 should carry a plug-in hybrid, two diesels and a host of petrols, including the 4.4-litre twin turbo V8 with at least 390kW of power. This year BMW did register the words X8 M, which leads us to believe the obvious.
