MINI South Africa is launching the new MINI John Cooper Works Countryman sometime during the last quarter of 2020. The car is the top-of-the-range model in the Countryman stable and provides a few extra items that others do not offer. Such as a powerful turbo engine.

Said engine is a 2.0-litre turbo petrol motor that produces 225kW of power and 450Nm of torque. It is paired standard with an 8-speed automatic transmission, and sends all power and torque to all four wheels using the All4 all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. MINI says this all takes the car from standstill to 100km/h in just 5.1 seconds, giving the distinction of “quickest series production Countryman ever”.

Of course people who buy the Countryman are those who enjoy the MINI brand but are looking for the practicality that a hatch does not offer. To that effect MINI says this car will open up to 1 390 litres of luggage space, presumably with the rear seats folded down.

Some of the car’s identifiers include standard LED headlights (adaptive LEDs with matrix function would be optional), a different front grille treatment, Chili Red brake callipers on the 18-inch alloy wheels and the Union Jack design on the rear LED lights. Three new colours White Silver metallic, Sage Green metallic and the optional Piano Black Exterior are available.

Interior features include current connectivity options such as Connected Media with a 22.3cm touch screen, a standard SIM card that keeps the car online, high-gloss piano black surfaces, Apple CarPlay preparation, real-time traffic data on the MINI Navigation Plus option and others. All the stuff available to the Mzansi buyer will become more apparent close to the car’s local launch.
