The new Porsche 911 Turbo range has arrived in Mzansi and it promises to be super quick. In fact, it listed as being as quick off the line as the previous-generation Turbo S. At the heart of it is a new engine with more power and a new transmission. The 911 Turbo is available in Coupe and soft top Cabriolet versions and can be ordered through the four Porsche Centres found in this country.

That power mentioned earlier comes from a 3.8-litre, 6-cylinder boxer engine with two VTG turbochargers. At its best it gives out 427kW of power at 6 500rpm, and 750Nm of torque between 2 250rpm and 4 500rpm. An exclusive 8-speed PDK transmission is fitted into the 911 Turbo, which assists the car to accelerate from 0 – 100km/h in a mere 2.8 seconds (2.9 seconds for the Cabriolet), and a top speed of 320km/h. this means the new 911 Turbo is as quick off the line as the previous-generation 911 Turbo S.

Porsche has installed different-sized wheels and tyres into the 911 Turbo. Up front there are 20-inch alloys with 255/35 tyres, while the rear features a 10mm wider track, 21-inch wheels and 315/30 tyres. The car features rear axle steering and a more powerful braking system with red fixed callipers fixed as standard. For the canvass top on the Cabriolet, buyers can choose from one of five colours.

As far as dimensions are concerned, the new 911 Turbo measures some 4.5 metres long, 1.3m tall, and has a wheelbase of 2.45m. Keep in mind that the 911 remains a 2+2 seater, which means it can accommodate up to four passengers, with two smaller passengers at the back. It has an unladen weight of 1.7 tonnes and a 67 litre fuel tank, from which Porsche says it will average 11.1 litres per 100km.

With the 911 Turbo being an everyday supercar, Porsche has kept its position intact by fitting comfort creatures one would find in any other 911. These include Porsche Advanced Cockpit and Direct Touch Control, Porsche Communication Management (PCM) with a 27.7cm touch screen, BOSE Surround Sound system, Sport Chrono package and 14-way electric sports front seats.
