Would you believe the time has come for BMW to introduce the facelift M5? These fresh spy pics prove as much. For now we don’t yet know exactly when this year the car will arrive in Mzansi, but we do know it will only be available as a Competition model because BMW SA will no longer be selling the “regular” M5 due to low demand.

These spy pics tell us that BMW will focus on the front and rear end as far as the facelift, updating the headlights, front grille, perhaps the bonnet, as well as the rear lights, spoiler and bumper. The interior will not escape changes as the infotainment system and some materials are also updated. Remember, a facelift does not alter the fundamentals of the car, meaning it will remain the same size as the current model. BMW will also keep the same 4.4-litre twin turbo V8 engine (paired to an 8-speed automatic and xDrive all-wheel-drive) that currently produces 441kW and 460kW in the M5 and M5 Competition respectively.
