The new-generation Volkswagen Golf (Mk8) will be revealed to the world fairly soon. Within a matter of weeks in fact. Not long thereafter we will see the all-new Golf GTI, which we expect will arrive in Mzansi sometime in late 2020. That car – seen here in spy shots while testing at the Nurburging – will once again be under pressure to rise to the top of the segment.

Although not a lot of visual details can be seen in the pics, there are a few notable ones. For one, the GTI features some LED headlights surrounding a rather thin front grille. Below that is a mesh air vent. The side design includes a sharp shoulder line going from the front fender to the boot, large wheels and matching arches, and a sloping rear roofline. At the back we can see a large panoramic sunroof, roof spoiler with brake lights, LED rear lights, and two separate exhaust tailpipes.

Word on the street is that the Golf 8 GTI will carry a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that delivers close to 200kW to the front wheels, using either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic gearbox. Mzansi will probably not see the manual ‘box though.
