Jaguar has announced the availability of the F-PACE SVR in Mzansi. The midsized, premium super SUV will take on the likes of cousin Range Rover Velar SV Autobiography, as well as the German BMW X3/ X4 M and Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 in a tight street fight. That’s thanks to its powerful new V8 engine and a host of other improvements that will make it hard to ignore in this segment.

So as far as that motor goes, it’s the familiar 5.0-litre supercharged petrol V8. Familiar because we have seen the same engine in a host of Jaguar Land Rover products. In this application it delivers some 405kW of power and 680Nm of pulling torque. That combination enables it to thrust forward from standstill to 100km/h in 4.3 seconds, whilst top speed is said to be an unGerman 283km/h. Paired with it is a revised 8-speed automatic with quicker changes, sending power and torque to all four wheels using the all-wheel-drive (AWD) with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics, All Surface Progress Control and Adaptive Surface Response.

Jaguar has initiated several upgrades to the standard F-PACE in order to meet the performance demands of this powertrain. The four-pipe exhaust system for example, is 6.6kg lighter than normal, gives better airflow and adds a rather throaty soundtrack. Front and rear springs are stiffer, rear tyres wider (both 21 and 22-inch), and a unique Dynamic Driving Mode is on duty with the transmission.

Some of the interior appointments of the F-PACE SVR include sports front seats with embossed SVR logos and lozenge quilting, an SVR sports steering wheel with shift paddles, Touch Pro infotainment system with a 25cm touch screen and 31.2cm instrument cluster that has 4G WiFi, as well as 650 litres of boot space. Buyers will also be able to choose from 7 exterior paint colours and 4 interior themes.
