Could the Renault Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance be looking at adding yet another partner? According to reports emanating from Europe, there is hushed talk of this. And which company could this be? Fiat Chrysler Automobiles apparently. Yes, FCA is already a combination of an American and an Italian company. Were it to join this existing alliance it would cement a top 3 motor company in the world after Volkswagen and Toyota. The rumoured merger could be announced in the next 12 months.

Mind you, Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi are currently separate companies themselves, but were rumoured to be on the way to a full merger orchestrated by their troubled former Chairman and CEO Mr Carlos Ghosn. With the Ghosn saga still underway it may be hard to convince shareholders that a global conglomerate run by one person is a good idea, especially considering the different cultures all these companies operate under. However, shareholders want money more than anything else, and if a merger would make them money they would vote for it.
