Mercedes-AMG has released details of its second 35-badged performance car, the new A 35 4Matic sedan. Following on the tyre tracks of the new A 35 4Matic hatch, the new sedan gives the new engine a different home, but keeps the same kind of performance as its hatch sibling. It has four doors and can sit up to five people with seatbelts. We can expect the car to land in Mzansi before the end of the year where it will take on the likes of Volkswagen Golf R and Audi S3 sedan.

Powered by a 2.0-litre turbo engine with Twinscroll technology, the car produces maximum power of 225kW, matched to 400Nm of torque. Mated to the engine is a 7-speed double clutch automatic gearbox, an AMG suspension and variable 4Matic all-wheel-drive (AWD). Together all these features enable it to sprint from standstill to 100km/h in just 4.8 seconds – according to its maker – and later reaching an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h. The claimed average fuel consumption is 7.3 litres per 100km.

Some of the distinguishing features given the to the A 35 sedan include a front grille with twin louvres, a front splitter, and AMG front apron with flics on the air intakes, “Turbo 4Matic” badges on the front fenders, 18-inch standard alloy wheels with 19-inches as options, a rear diffuser, boot spoiler and two separated exhaust tailpipes.

The interior is on flick with two large infotainment screens; one acting specifically on behalf of the driver, while the other helps to control the new MBUX infotainment features like interior climate, music system, satellite navigation and others with help from the new “Hey Mercedes” voice control system. Other sweet niceties are the flat-bottomed, multifunction steering wheel witch a partially perforated leather covering and red contrast stitching.
