Mercedes-Benz has apparently confirmed to several European media that it will not produce another generation of the SLC roadster. The SLC used to be called the SLK. Current sales trends don’t support these kinds of sports cars which are extremely impractical and expensive. Current trends support the SUV, of which Mercedes-Benz has plenty and more to come still.

The SLC is still on sale in Mzansi though and will continue to be for a while yet. Models in the range are the SLC 200, SLC 300 and the Mercedes-AMG SLC 43. Since Mercedes-Benz South Africa does not report its monthly sales figures anymore, we don’t know how many units they are currently selling. And for now there is no word on what could replace it, although smaller, more reasonably-priced Mercedes-Benz cars are being launched all the time. Some – like the A 45 – could be described as sporty, although they don’t quite have the same exclusivity and exoticism cache as the SLC.
