Dacia is a well-known European brand that is owned by the Renault motor company. In fact, in many overseas countries, cars that are branded Renault in Mzansi carry the Dacia badge, such as the Dacia Sandero. And so it happens that Dacia has been chosen to produce a new small bakkie (pickup) that will launch sometime this year and be sold in South America mainly.

Of course Mzansi is also a bakkie country, but the half tonne market seems to be miniscule compared to its bigger sibling. With only one real player in Nissan and that brand selling about 1 400 of its NP200 example each month, it may not be financially viable. Regardless, it is possible that Renault might bring it here. Incidentally Renault and Nissan are in a global alliance, and therefore possibly could actually manufacture the little one right here in Rosslyn, next to the NP200.

A couple of powertrains would go into the vehicle, including the company 1.5 dCi turbo diesel or even the 1.3 tCi turbo petrol. This being Mzansi, the local outfit may choose to stick to the naturally aspirated option here.
