There will not be a Bugatti SUV. At least not in the foreseeable future. This piece of news – which directly affects about 1 000 people globally – comes at a time when pretty much every car manufacturer in the luxury space is either producing, or planning to produce some sort of SUV. Not Bugatti.

Company president Stephan Winkelmann has penned a letter to stakeholders in celebration of the brand’s 110 year anniversary. In the letter Winkelmann briefly explains the history of Bugatti, including founder Ettore Bugatti’s early work, its philosophy on performance and some current models like Chiron and Divo. Incidentally 76 units of Chiron were sold in 2018, quite a long way still from its total lifetime production target of 500. At the end of the letter Winkelmann breaks 1 000 super rich daddy hearts by saying: “Although speculation is rife and the time appears to be appropriate, “there will be no SUV from Bugatti”. He adds that an SUV would not do justice to the brand or its history.” Boom daddy money!
