Fans of the Mercedes-AMG brand will be pleased to know that their favourite hot hatch is coming back thick and fast. It will be in Mzansi before the year is over. These spy pictures show the all-new A 45 testing under different conditions, ahead of its world debut, which we believe is quite imminent. As you can see, the company – apart from the bad Ndebele paintwork – has barely even attempted a camouflage job on it.

Which is good for us, because we can clearly see that it’s a Mercedes-Benz first of all. That front grille looks like the Panamerica design found in the AMG GT R, while the badge rings clear and loud. Another design highlight is the large rear spoiler located on the roof. It appears to be fixed, which would make sense from a cost point of view. There’s also the four exhaust tailpipes which make it a true AMG.

So far we are made to believe the new A 45 will carry a highly revised version of the turbocharged 2.0-litre engine, and that this motor will produce above 300kW of power. We would have thought Mercedes-AMG would rather use the new 3.0-litre straight six turbo. Power and torque will go to all four wheels via the 4Matic all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. Expect a 0 – 100km/h claimed time of around 4 seconds.
