Alfa Romeo’s expansion appears to be on track. Reports coming out of Europe suggest the company is developing not one but two more new SUVs to add to the Stelvio. Stelvio is a mid-sized premium SUV competing against the likes of Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC. The two new cars will be placed on either side of Stelvio.

That means we are going to see something large, and something small. The former will be set up against cars like the Audi Q7 and BMW X5, while the baby will be competing against Mercedes-Benz GLA and X1. With this in mind, it’s probable that powertrains for the small SUV will reflect much of what is happening at the moment at FCA, including 1.8-litre turbo and 2.0-litre turbo petrols, with manual and automatic gearboxes. The big dog will share much of its architecture with the next-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee. Both rangers will feature plenty of electrification.
