Porsche Mission E concept 2

After 70 years of producing some of the best sports cars the world has ever seen, Porsche is now getting ready to enter a whole chapter in its life. Full-electric sports cars. The first of these will be called the Taycan, a name that means “lively young horse”. This is the same car that has so far been named Mission E. It will be a 4-door full-electric car with remarkable everyday capabilities.

“Our new electric sports car is strong and dependable; it’s a vehicle that can consistently cover long distances and that epitomises freedom”, explains Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG. We already know a few details about the Taycan, including the fact that it goes into production in 2020, will make use of two permanently synchronous motors (PSM) to output 440kW. It will have 0 – 100km/h acceleration time of under 3.5 seconds and most importantly, carry a range of over 500km.

Porsche is investing 500 million Euros (about R7.8 billion) in the development of the Taycan. Interestingly the car will also have variants and derivatives, and we can only guess what this means in terms of body styles and so on. Over 1 200 new jobs are being created by this development at Zuffenhausen alone.
