Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid 1

The all-new Porsche Cayenne now comes with an E-Hybrid model, which of course uses plug-in hybrid technology for its power. The big SUV, now in its third-generation, will be offered in this hybrid guise to the Mzansi buyer, and orders are now open. Let’s go on and share a bit of what we do know then, including powertrain specs and prices.

Jumping straight into the powertrain we see there is a 3.0-litre petrol V6 underlying things. On its own it rakes out 250kW of power and 440Nm of torque. Then there’s an electric motor, which adds its own 100kW. In the end the total system output is 340kW and 700Nm of torque. Porsche says it will accelerate from standstill to 100km/h in just 5 seconds flat to reach maximum speed of 253km/h. Pairing the system is an 8-speed Tiptronic gearbox which is said to not only be smooth, but also quick to change gears.

An electric range of 44km has been specified, which means it will drive for up to these distances on electric power alone. Both systems will return an average of 3.3 litres per 100km, according to Porsche’s own figures. The empty battery can be fully recharged in under 8 hours through the normal electric power system. . If the optional 7.2-kW on-board charger and a 230-volt connection with 32 amps are used as an alternative to the standard 3.6-kW charger, its takes 2.3 hours.

Some of the other standout features include the standard Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), an electric Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) roll stabilisation system, head-up display (for the first time in a Porsche), massaging seats, and a heated windscreen.
