The expansion of the AMG family appears to be rolling unabated. Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the GT 4-Door Coupe at the Geneva International Motor Show. Remember the car is the 4-door version of the GT Coupe, the company’s latest (and greatest) sports car yet. It is expected to go on sale in Mzansi either later in the year or in early 2019 to compete against the rather rapid Porsche Panamera range.

Three derivatives will initially be on offer; a GT 53, GT 63 and a GT 63 S. The “baby” uses Mercedes-Benz’s new 3.0-litre biturbo straight six engine to procure 320kW of power, a 0 – 100km/h sprint time of 4.5 seconds and a top end of 285km/h (bye bye 250km/h restriction?). Next up the GT 63 with a 4.0-litre biturbo V8 that’s good for some 430kW and 800Nm of torque, a 3.4 second sprint and a 310km/h top end. At the top end is the throbbing GT 63 S worth a thundering 470kW and 900Nm, capable of launching from standstill to 100km/h in a mere 3.2 seconds, thus making it the quickest road-going Mercedes-Benz of all time!

All three cars come standard with 4Matic all-wheel-drive (AWD) which sends power and torque to the right axle (front or rear), depending on where it is needed. The two 63 ones are mated with a 9-speed MCT automatic gearbox, while the 53 uses the TCT ‘box. Buyers will be able to specify rear wheel steering on their 53, but the system is standard with the 63 models.

The new infotainment system used by Mercedes-Benz is found in the GT 4-Door as well, featuring the really wide 31.cm full colour split screen display, four-zone climate control and two rear seats among others. Giving that extra usability is a liftgate rear boot system, while the four exhaust tailpipes ensure it is recognised as a genuine AMG.
