MERCEDES-AMG GT FOUR-DOOR APPEARS NEXT MONTH

Mercedes-AMG viertüriger GT auf Entwicklungsfahrt

Word coming straight out of Affalterbach out in Germany is that the all-new Mercedes-AMG GT four-door Coupe will be unveiled at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show next month. This is big news for the AMG brand because this is the first standalone four-door model to come out of this brand. Remember, other AMGs are modified existing models, like the C 63 or E 43.

These official camouflaged “spy” pictures confirm the existence of four doors, as expected. The vehicle is a direct competitor to the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe and the Porsche Panamera, now that the CLS has been downgraded. It boasts a similar face to the AMG GT range, with that Panamerica front grille dominating its look. To make it a coupe they slanted the rear roof, all the way to the boot end. This particular model boasts four exhaust tailpipes.

Those will emit emissions from the main powertrain, expected to consist of the company’s 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 engine with over 400kW, to be run by the Mercedes-Benz 9G-tronic automatic gearbox. For now there are not indications as to whether it will be two or all-wheel drive. Later there might be an entry-level 3.0-litre straight six with over 300kW.
