2018 BMW X3 c

The all-new BMW X3, which will begin its South Africa production cycle in 2018 at BMW’s Plant Rosslyn, will launch locally over the coming few weeks. Designed anew from scratch, the vehicle is carrying BMW SA’s hopes of dominating the mid-sized family SUV segment with a premium product. As the segment pioneer, there is constant pressure on the X3 to improve as generations go by. So for those who want to get in line early, we have Mzansi prices.

The 4.7 metre-long vehicle will be launched with four different engine models, all featuring xDrive all-wheel-drive (AWD), represented by two petrols and two diesels. Four kit lines are made available: Standard, Exclusive, M Sport and xLine. Cheapest of the lot is the X3 xDrive20d with a 2.0-litre turbo diesel motor that makes 140kW and 400Nm. It is followed by the X3 xDrive30i, powered by a 2.0-litre turbo petrol that produces 185kW and 350Nm of torque. Next to it is another diesel, this time a X3 xDrive30d driven by a 3.0-litre straight six, making some 195kW and a thrusty 620Nm. Top dog – at least until the arrival of the X3 M – is the X3 M40i that carries a 3.0-litre turbo petrol with 265kW of power and 500Nm of torque.

All models will arrive with a standard 8-speed automatic gearbox iDrive infotainment system with ConnectedDrive and a 25.9cm screen, dual zone climate control, a BMW Professional sound system with USB and aux ports, 550 litres of normal boot loading space (up to 1 600 litres) and others.
