PARIS TO BAN PETROL AND DIESEL CARS FROM 2030

The city of Paris has declared that it will be banning petrol and diesel powered cars from 2030. This is being done to make the city carbon-neutral by 2050. Effectively this is a major blow for all car manufacturers doing business in France, especially the French ones like Renault. But it also presents them with an opportunity to triple their efforts of improving electric-car technology and reducing costs so that consumers can be able to buy them.

Recently Paris announced it would be banning diesel-powered vehicles from 2024. Presently diesel cars make up about 40% of all new car sales in France and this ban will be hard to swallow for many businesses that rely on these vehicles to prosper. Similarly the town of Oxford in the United Kingdom says only electric vehicles will be allowed on certain streets from 2020, thus creating something like a “zero-emissions zone
