NEW AUDI RS 7 HYBRID RUMOURED

2018 Audi A7 spy 1

Apparently Audi is not quite ready to play nice with the other German kids. Word on the street is that the next-generation RS 7 Sportback will pack an extra electric punch when it’s launched in late 2018. That’s because it will be sold in two versions; one petrol-only and the second a plug-in hybrid. This is the first time a car of its nature, let alone the RS 7 itself, has been offered with two different powertrains.

Those in the know suggest the petrol RS 7 will use the current 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 only, to deliver over 470kW of power. The RS 7 hybrid will then add another 40kW or so in using the same engine, plus a lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor. Both cars are set to use an 8-speed automatic gearbox to send power and torque to all four wheels via a rear-wheel-biased quattro all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. Expect both cars to drop 0 – 100km/h times of under 3.5 seconds.
