FERRARI CROSSOVER ONLY A FEW YEARS AWAY

Sergio Marchionne of Ferrari

Ferrari is definitely going the crossover route. Although some reports have suggested it will be an SUV, we don’t believe that will be the case. Our initial impression is that it will be something like a super version of the Audi A6 allroad; a sports car with a raised body. At the moment nobody is doing that. Competitors either build hi-performance SUVs like the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S or station wagons like the Mercedes-AMG E 63 S Estate. Nothing in between.

The car is expected to hit the streets after the year 2020, or around the time current executive chairman Sergio Marchionne (65) retires. Marchionne, who’s been adamant so far that such a vehicle would never happen, has begun softening his stance around the matter. What the company is trying to do now over the next 30 months is to figure out how to maintain Ferrari’s high exclusivity while increasing the range in this direction. The vehicle will probably add around 2 000 more annual sales, mostly from customers in Asia and the Middle East.
