Honda South Africa has confirmed its show stopper at the 2013 Johannesburg International Motor Show (JIMS) will be the new supercar NSX Concept. NSX has been resurrected from the 1990s badge that made quite a big impact for the brand in terms of performance. Honda previously also confirmed the car will be produced from 2015 and we have seen some test mules doing the rounds.
While the normal public can only dream of such a car and are therefore probably hoping to see the new Civic Type R instead, Honda has said nothing about that at all for JIMS. But the NSX Concept will be very much welcome. We don’t have any performance figures even for the concept, but we do know it will feature a V6 hybrid system. Since a 2.0-litre Turbo with over 200kW has been signalled for the new Civic Type R, we also expect the NSX to feature turbo technology.
Of course this is still early days, too early for pricing. Regardless, in the United Kingdom dealerships are already accepting deposits of about R80 000 a pop. Indicatively this could mean a price tag of around R1.7 million for the Mzansi market. That’s if we get an allocation of these highly sought-after supercars.
You will see the Honda NSX Concept at JIMS this week. Hope you can make it.
