Come the Geneva International Motor Show next month and we will see a brand new Ferrari on the stand. It’s called the 812 Superfast and comes with the most powerful naturally aspirated V12 engine the company has ever produced. Following on the tyre marks of the F12berlinetta and F12tdf, the new 812 Superfast is an everyday hyper car.

Ferrari is celebrating 70 years of existence this year and this car is the first expression of those celebrations. Powered by the 6.5-litre V12 that produces 588kW at a dizzying height of 8 500rpm, as well as 718Nm of torque at 7 000rpm. Clearly the car is quite happy to rev itself to madness. Now before you say “but the LaFerrari makes 708kW”, remember that also has an electric motor and batteries. Its basic V12 also makes 588kW, but “only” 700Nm

So, having clarified that point, we can go on to state that it uses a double-clutch automatic gearbox said to change gears quicker than the blink of an eye. You’ve just blinked haven’t you? We understand. All that power and torque results in a claimed 0 – 100km/h sprint time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of over 340km/h.

At 4.6 metres long, 1.97m wide and 1.27m tall, the 812 Superfast is slightly shorter than the LaFerrari but longer than the 488 GTB. Electric Power Steering makes its debut on a Ferrari and works in conjunction with the brand’s Side Slip Control to noticeably improve the car’s handling characteristics. Although Scuderia South Africa has not announced a price yet, expect to shell out at least R6 million for a base model.
