Audi has now presented a facelift wild RS 3 Sportback. More than just a mere refreshed face, the little pocket laser gun is now updated under the bonnet as well. If bigger, more powerful cars were weary of the RS 3 before, now they have serious worries coming up their lives. That’s because power has been upped to RS 3 sedan values…

That’s right. The new RS 3 Sportback is now good for 294kW and 480Nm of torque. Interestingly the 2.5-litre, 5-cylinder unit is now lighter than its predecessor by some 26kg. Using a 7-speed S tronic double clutch gearbox and the mandatory quattro all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, the RS 3 Sportback is said to hurtle from standstill to 100km/h in a mere 4.1 seconds. Top speed is limited to 250km/h, but can be delimited to 280km/h upon request. Audi claims 8.3 litres per 100km when it comes to average fuel consumption.

“The Audi RS 3 Sportback offers our customers an attractive introduction to the RS world,” said Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Audi Sport GmbH. “Since 2011 the sporty compact model has proved itself extremely successful on the market. And with the new five-cylinder engine, the Audi RS 3 Sportback is at the head of its class and continuing that strong track record.”

Visually some of the changes made have included the black honeycomb front single frame grille with large air inlets, a redesigned bumper blade, a quattro logo at the bottom of the single frame, new LED headlights (matrix will be optional), an RS roof edge spoiler, a rear diffuser, and those signature oval RS tailpipes with added “brrrrr pha!”. The RS 3 runs on 19-inch cast wheels and 235/35 tyres, while the front track has been widened by 2cm, as have the wheel arches.

Inside the car is decked out in RS dress-ups, such as the special RS screen which shows torque, g-forces and tyre pressure. This works with the Audi virtual cockpit. Sports seats are covered in Nappa leather and comes with RS emblems, while the sports steering wheel is flat-bottomed.
