Volvo has revealed official pictures and details concerning the all-new V90 Cross Country. The big crossover is an all-road, all-weather vehicle with a raised ride that falls between the V90 station wagon and the XC90 big SUV. Interesting news is that South Africans will also get a chance at owning this car when it lands here, probably sometime in 2017.

“The new V90 Cross Country takes the elegance of the V90 and transforms it into an all-road car that delivers safety, comfort and performance in a capable and adventurous package,” says Håkan Samuelsson, President & CEO, Volvo Car Group. That the car is very attractive, capable and really premium cannot be disputed. However, that the Mzansi market does not like “station wagons” is also true. Just think how many you see on the roads. Volvo SA obviously believes it can buck this trend and move enough units to make money.

More details on the dimensions of the V90 Cross Country will be shared at a later stage, but as you can see, it shares its interior with the S90 and V90, including the large infotainment touch screen and the high-end sound system by Bowers & Wilkins. And clearly it has serious boot loading space, with the rear seats up or down.

Engines will largely reflect those found in the S90 and V90, including the D5 pushing out 173kW, the D4 with 140kW, a T5 of some 187kW and the 235kW T6. All these are actually based on 4-cylinder, 2.0-litre turbo units, both petrol and diesel.
