A mysterious little BMW has been spotted doing some serious laps around the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The car looks pretty much like an M2 Coupe; front end, big wheels, two doors, four tailpipes. The only problem is that the M2 is already on sale and cannot be going around testing in disguise. So what car is this?

Popular speculation at the office is that it’s the upcoming higher-performance version of the M2. And if that’s the case then expect a slightly different front end, probably sporting bigger air vents all around, and a different rear bumper. The interior will also be sportier than normal. It will be lighter in weight, and more powerful too. What it will be called is still a bit of a mystery, but key to this could be the rear seats. With the CSL badge, BMW kept the rear seats intact, but M GTS cars have had no rear seats at all, instead taking on roll cages in their place. We cannot see inside this car yet, so we will take CSL for now. That is, M2 CSL.

At the heart of things will be the throbbing 3.0-litre turbo engine currently doing 272kW and 465Nm in the M2 Coupe. In this instance we expect it to rake in no less than 300kW, sending it to the rear wheels. Its 0 – 100km/h time will possibly match the M3/ M4 at around 4.2 seconds.
