The all-new Nissan Micra has been spied on the streets of Europe, testing ahead of its international public debut at the 2016 Paris International Motor Show. The car will replace a vehicle that is now the oldest in its segment. Nissan South Africa should begin selling the new Micra sometime in late 2017.

Looking longer and just bigger in general than its current self, the all-new Micra will take on class-leaders like the Ford Fiesta, Volkswagen Polo, Toyota Yaris and Opel Corsa among others, in a segment that keeps growing each year. That Nissan has been absent from the segment has really hurt its overall sales. Micra will look to fix that.

A new infotainment system will be seen, with full colour icons, satellite navigation in some countries, USB/ MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for the smart phone, more space inside and in the boot, as well as new turbocharged engines. Expect to see 1.2-litre turbo, 1.6-litre turbo and diesels in the new range. Is a hybrid also possible? We believe so.
