The new-generation 2018 Toyota Auris hatchback is well inside its development cycle and is expected to hit the showroom floors some time in 2017. Seen here through the lenses of spy photographers, the new Auris appears to carry on the design theme of its current soon-to-be predecessor. Remember, the car competes against the likes of Ford Focus, Opel Astra, Volkswagen Golf and Peugeot 308 among others.

The car has a sharp, sporty nose and quite a flat line all the way from the bonnet to the C-pillar. An interesting aspect of the test mule are the side mirrors which appear to be placed higher than usual. The rear end features arrow-shaped LED lights and somewhat of a raised boot line. That is good for space, both in terms of headroom and luggage. Toyota will, for the first time, install turbo petrol engines into the Auris, including a 1.2-litre with about 85kW and a 2.0-litre dispatching over 120kW. You can obviously expect at least one diesel as well as a hybrid too.
