ALL-NEW 2014 MINI DETAILS OUT!

The all-new MINI hatch is coming to Mzansi before June 2014. And when it does it will feature some new stuff that should make it cool again with its buyer profile. For the first time since BMW bought it, MINI will also feature 3 and 4-cylinder engines, giving it a wider spectrum to impress.

Impress it will have to, given that it will be first to use BMW’s new 1.5-litre 3-cylinder motor. The introductory model is expected to produce 100kW and 220Nm of torque, while a 2.0-litre could see us driving a 140kW, 280Nm standard MINI. While we don’t yet know if the 140kW will be a Cooper S or not, we believe the John Cooper Works model will hit over 160kW, with a GP version possibly delivering some 170kW sometime in 2018.

New MINI will feature a new 6-speed manual gearbox and an automatic version, which may well be an 8-speed. Although larger than its current brother, the next MINI will also be lighter, giving it better performance overall – both in sport and fuel consumption. Some technical wizardly has gone in to ensure it improves on its already-solid reputation as a road kart. Therefore buyers can expect to be entertained as they drive their new MINIs.

BMW will unveil the new MINI on the 18th of November at their Oxford, UK factory. It will then do the international rounds, starting at the L.A. Auto Show, then North American International Auto Show in January. Sales begin shortly thereafter.
