PSA’s DS brand is going ahead with plans to challenge the status quo in the premium segment. Launched as a standalone brand in 2015, separate from initial parent Citroen, the DS brand is forging on with creating cars that stand out from the rest. One of these is the facelift DS 3 Racing, a new limited edition performance version of the little hatch. There was a DS Racing before and in fact, a handful even made it to Mzansi. But this one is more powerful and signals DS’s intentions for other models as well.

Based on the 1.6-litre turbo engine running through the veins of many Peugeot Citroen products, the DS 3 Racing has upped its power output to 153kW and features a 6-speed manual gearbox that sends power to the front wheels. It also has a lower suspension for that added sportiness, but still features all the niceties that DS comes with, like satellite navigation, dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth connectivity, all through a touch screen.

But wait, there’s more. According to a story from AutoExpress in the UK, the DS performance story will soon be extended to other cars in the DS range. It’s not immediately clear which cars are affected yet, but the upcoming DS 4 springs to mind. At the same time, DS is not keen on hard-core performance, but rather a dash of performance mixed with luxury and comfort. So no track-only specials. And with their recent victory at Dakar, the company could even expand performance into their sedans and SUVs/ crossovers as well.
