2019 Volkswagen Touareg teaser sketch 2

Volkswagen has confirmed that its all-new Touareg will be publically exhibited for the first time at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show in China on the 23rd of March. Why China and not Geneva? Simply because that is the company’s best market and SUVs are selling like the proverbial hot magwinya over there. Mzansi sales should follow a few months later, most probably in early 2019.

Apart from the odd spy shot, we don’t have full pictures of the car. To assist us in the meantime Volkswagen has sent out these sketches, which obviously don’t reveal all that much. However, we do expect the Touareg to look sportier than before, with a bit of a hunch and a squat, as well as some nice dynamic lines. As the flagship third-generation Volkswagen brand product, it will offer some of the most advanced technologies available, including something called the Innovision Cockpit for the infotainment system, air suspension and rear-wheel steering among a host of others.

Powertrains should consist mostly of existing Group material, including 3.0-litre turbo V6 petrol and diesel engines. Since we will, for the first time, see a performance Tiguan R, it would be nice to also see a four-pipe Touareg R with over 400kW. It’s possible, but is it probable? After all, this is basically the same car as the Porsche Cayenne, and THAT will be offered with a 400kw-plus Turbo model. It is a 4×4 so off-roading should be a pleasure.
